The Power Of Blue

The world literally took Pantone very seriously when they named the colour Cerulean (sky blue) the “Colour of the New Millennium”. Then in 2008, the company selected Blue Iris as the “Colour of the Year” saying:

“Blue Iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement.”

The colour blue and all its hues is said to energize your senses and bring a soothing effect to the viewer. Some of its varying hues also evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of well-being.

Ever noticed that all the famous global companies have their websites or logos is any one shade of blue? Some companies like IBM, Samsung, AT&T and BMW use blue as the main colour in their logo. And just about every major website incorporates at least one shade of blue into their design.

From Twitter, Reddit, Digg, Tumblr, Formspring, Foursquare, LinkedIn, Askville, Mozilla Firefox, Mashable, Microsoft, Skype, MSN Windows Live to even the white house website. Cool right?

Well, the whole reason Facebook is entirely blue is because the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is red-green colour blind (a genetic colour blindness that affects mostly males). The colour he can see best is blue. Coincidence? I think not.

Since the reason the other companies use blue cannot be attributed to because they suffer from the same problem as Mark Zuckerberg, here we have listed a few possible reasons that could be.
